The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical expertise, and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspections, pollution prevention, and vessel manning laws, regulations, treaties, and international conventions. The Marine Inspector serves as the civilian resident Prevention Department's source for continuity of previous inspection policies, technical issues, special program support activity and a primary inspection representative with the maritime industry responsible for commercial vessel safety. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. For all U.S. certified vessels and support of port state control examinations of foreign vessels operating in the U.S., an individual assigned to this position performs or leads in the performance of the following inspection functions. Typical work assignments include:
Conducts reviews of vessel's plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with regulations Determines that vessels being inspected have the proper documents and certificates on board and in effect Capable of inspecting all required navigation, intra-vessel communication, alarm, lifesaving, fire fighting, and pollution prevention systems on a vessel to ensure that they are operating properly and compliance with applicable national and international standards Capable of inspecting a vessel's hull Capable of inspecting vessel's machinery Identifies hazardous conditions, notes violations of accepted vessel specifications and operational technology and prescribes methods of correcting these conditions Ensures the required inspection documentation is prepared and orders drafted Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience includes:
independently conducting, and/or serving as a qualified team member or leader on, marine inspections or vessel surveys on the most complex vessels (must include petroleum industry vessels); determining compliance with laws, regulations, and applicable standards, verifying the existence of proper vessel documentation and the certification and safe and proper operating order of systems (navigation, communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems) and machinery, and the soundness and acceptable parameters of vessel structures and hulls; identifying hazardous conditions and violations and prescribing corrective measures; overseeing new construction of small passenger vessels, implementing Alternate Compliance Program and Self Streamlined Inspection Program requirements, and evaluating International Safety Management Systems; providing technical expertise and training to junior inspectors; providing input to program planning; and writing analytical reports. Inspecting vessel systems/equipment to ensure sound condition; providing project leadership on technical issues involving commercial vessels or towing vessel safety; operating marine computer programs (e.g. Marine Information for Safety and Law Enforcement (MISLE); and tracking small passenger vessel plan review and new construction projects using Marine Information for Safety & Law Enforcement (MISLE database).National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
