Job Description
Nestled in the breathtaking hillside of Ketchikan, Cape Fox Lodge features a ski-style interior exhibiting local native art, a river rock fireplace, beamed ceilings, overstuffed chairs and spectacular views of forest, mountains, and water.
Cape Fox Lodge offers 69 guest rooms, 2 suites and one deluxe room. Our on-site restaurant, the Heen Kahidi, features a seasonal menu that includes Alaskan King crab. The adjacent lounge has monthly drink specials and entertainment. Our three-story lodge is located in Tongass National Forest. The surrounding Tongass National Forest provides numerous recreational opportunities including flightseeing, sportfishing, eagle watching, kayaking, and hiking. Downtown Ketchikan, three blocks away, offers historic buildings and museums that explore the city''s colorful past.

The General Manager reports directly to the Saxman Business Manager and will coordinate, direct and manage day-to-day hotel operations.
Job Summary
As a General Manager, your primary responsibility is to utilize hands-on management, training and motivation to assure the highest level of customer service if afforded to our guests. The General Manager will oversee the hotel operations by ensuring the creation and execution of business plans, marketing strategies, sales activities, cost containments, analysis, property maintenance and security.
The General Manager is also responsible for direct oversight of each department head and consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the lodge by accomplishing performance objectives focused on business revenues, guest and associate satisfaction and effectiveness and efficiencies.
In coordination with department heads, the General Manager will submit GM approved budgets to the Saxman Business Manager. The General Manager will also oversee the development of staffing guides and schedules, and most importantly, will support and engage guests to ensure that the needs, desires and expectations of the Lodge guests are consistently exceeded.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Oversee the development of operating budgets for each of the lodge's departments. After approval, monitor and take corrective action as necessary to assure that budget goals are attained.
Creates an operating environment that assures consistent guest satisfaction.
Responding promptly to guest questions, comments or complaints.
Oversee and ensure that effective orientation and training for new staff and professional development for experienced staff are planned and implemented.
The position is actively involved in the local community and builds strong relationships with local officials, businesses, and customers.
Ensure that all safety, sanitation, energy management, and other standards are consistently met.
Maintaining proper maintenance of the building, grounds, and vehicles to protect the physical assets of the hotel.
Oversee the Food & Beverage Director's development of standard operating procedures for revenue and cost control and ensure they are consistently utilized and make recommendations.
Support and communicate company goals and initiatives, promote company programs, and act as an ambassador of the company.
Maintains a pro-active human resource function to ensure employee motivation and training & development.
Works closely with Corporate Human Resources to ensure proper wage & benefit administration and compliance with established labor regulations and company policies and procedures.
Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with the Lodge dress code.
Continuously developing a team and encouraging our employees to excel in their roles and continuously improve; motivating them to exceed expectations of the guests; passionately upholding and elevating a positive work environment for the internal guests - our employees.
Executes marketing, sales, and operational activities, producing results that meet or exceed the hotel's business plan.
Analyzing operating statements and reports for accuracy.
Will work with department heads to create and maintain MOD manual.
Monitors the performance of the hotel through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and financial reports. Initiates corrective action.
Maintains product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints. Initiates corrective action.
Develops accurate long and short-range financial objectives consistent with the Company's mission statement.
Understands the government regulations affecting the hotel's operations, ensuring hotel is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations, and requirements of any federal, state or municipal authority.
Oversee and approve the organizational chart, staffing and scheduling procedures and job description/specifications for all hotel staff.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures for departments.
Hold regular meeting with department heads to coordinate and monitor the progress of business strategies.
Implement an approved Revenue Management Plan.
Plans and organizes the work of others.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Typically, directly supervises department managers at the hotel. Indirectly supervises all hotel personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies, training programs, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to sit, stand, or crouch and reach for an extended period of time.
Ability to work on computer for long periods.

Long hours and weekends may be required to meet deliverables.

Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience
Hospitality training or education preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of full-service hotel management experience required.
5-10 years of hospitality hotel experience.
Two year college degree, or equivalent experience required.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid Driver's License required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A team builder who has a history of attracting, developing and retaining a high performance staff who, in turn, are able to be both responsible and accountable to deliver service standards that exceed all guest expectations.
An intuitive style resulting in a sincere and clearly engaged presence with customers, guests and staff. Having the stamina, sensitivity and overall multi-tasking ability to manage and lead in this type of environment is critical.
Fundamental understanding of what constitutes a 'premier lodge experience', and the proven ability and history to execute to that level is fundamental.
Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Self-motivated with minimal oversight.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Some travel may be required.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
