Job Description Description PeaceHealth is seeking a Certified First Assistant for a temporary job opportunity at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center in Ketchikan, Alaska.
This position is a temporary 1.
0 FTE, day shift.
We pay temporary assignment pay, as well as housing, transportation, and travel stipends available.
PeaceHealth Ketchikan is a licensed 25 bed hospital.
The OR has five beds (3 main OR, 1 minor procedure and 1 GI suite).
We average about 130 cases a week.
This is a self-scheduling unit that is team oriented!Experience small town Alaska life and join our dedicated team as we care for our diverse population in Ketchikan.
Located in the middle of a rainforest in southern Southeast Alaska, our patients share their experiences of living on a remote island filled with wildlife, culture, and community.
Adventures are easy to find weather on hiking trails or exploring the ocean with the whales.
Responsible for practicing in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience.
Collaborates during surgery with the surgeon and the healthcare team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient.
Details of the Position:
Accumulates the appropriate surgical armamentarium.
Positions the patient on the operating room table.
Preps patient for surgical procedures (shave, catheterize, drape, etc.
).
Provides exposure for the surgical procedure.
Provides hemostasis by suction, cauterization, clamping, suturing or ligation.
Administers local anesthesia as directed by the surgeon.
Places dressing.
Maintains accurate, legible and confidential records.
Completes documentation pertinent to patient medical record.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
Successful completion of a CFA program that meets the recommended education standards for Certified First Assistants.

Completion of a mentored internship with a minimum of 120 hours of clinical experience demonstrating the ability to function as a CFA Demonstrated training and minimum of one year of experience and current competence in performing CFA tasks required.
National Certified Surgical Technologist certification, Certification as First Assistant.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at date of hire.
Well organized, detail oriented and self-motivated.
Ability to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with others.
Ability to execute detailed procedures with accuracy and precision.
Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications.
Understanding of operating room protocols.
Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 including 2 doses of a 2-dose series or 1 dose of a 1-dose series plus 14 days beyond the final dose prior to start date.
COMMUNITY/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTESPHMC:
Assists with the application of casts or immobilizing devices.
Insertion and removal of trocars.
Performs as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) as needed, including technical duties of passing of instruments for operative procedures, preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field and surgical instrumentation.
